Frequently Asked Questions

WHAT ARE THE BOOKS FOR BRATS TITLES?
"Daddy, You're My Hero!" and "Mommy, You're my hero!" help address deployment in simple, non-threatening terms with children.
Look forward to a book about moving, a book geared toward pre-teens, as well as general interest children's books.

WHO IS THE AUTHOR AND ILLUSTRATOR?
Though she's always been a writer, Michelle Ferguson-Cohen, was also a veteran of the music industry. She is the daughter of a retired Army General who served two tours in Vietnam, as well as the granddaughter of a soldier killed in action during WWII. She wrote these books out of her experience as a military "brat" when, as a child, she couldn't find any books that reflected her experience. She lives in Brooklyn, NY with her husband.

We plan on releasing more books by Michelle Ferguson-Cohen soon on topics dealing with moving and more.  In addition, some of the new titles will be written for older children including tweens. We are also developing merchandise to compliment the series.

ENCOURAGE UNDERSTANDING
We hope to see the media cover more of the military community experience. We think it is vital for children's self-esteem to see themselves properly represented in the media. In addition, proper representation of our community in the media promotes, sensitivity and compassion from the general public. We hope these books go someway toward meeting those goals, but we also suggest your participation in promoting better understanding of the military families' experience by contacting your local and national media. In addition, we have begun a campaign to ask Oprah to help use her substantial power and compassion to bring the story of our community to the rest of the world.
